NHS providers warn that patient safety is at risk this winter

Commenting on warnings today from NHS Providers that 'patient safety will be risked this winter without an immediate funding and capacity boost for the NHS', Liberal Democrat Health spokesperson Norman Lamb said:

"This call comes as no surprise. The NHS has avoided meltdown over recent winters as a result of mild temperatures and the absence of a serious flu epidemic. We have to make sure the system can cope this winter.

The Government must urgently heed this warning from hospitals about the need for more support.

Liberal Democrats would put a penny on income tax for health and social care, creating a ring-fenced fund to provide more vital resources for our NHS, keep patients safe and to start transforming the system to focus more effectively on keeping people healthier and out of hospital."

The Lib Dems will save the NHS from crisis.

We will spend 1p in the pound of Income Tax on NHS and social care services, prioritising mental health care and limiting care costs for the elderly.
