Responding to the statement from the Prime Minister as he returns to work at Downing Street, Acting Leader of the Liberal Democrats Ed Davey said:
"It is great news to see the Prime Minister is healthy enough to return to work.
"Sadly as this crisis continues, thousands of families have lost a loved one. Life for them will never be the same again. We must continue to do everything in our power to stop the spread of this cruel virus.
"The Liberal Democrats continue to support the advice for people to stay at home. It is a sacrifice for millions of people, but ending the lockdown too early could undo all of the progress we have already achieved.
"The Prime Minister has said that he will work with opposition parties as we enter the next phase and we welcome that. Liberal Democrats want to understand why, so long into this crisis, we still have carers on the frontline without the protection they need to keep them safe and how the UK has fallen behind so many other countries in testing and tracing. We want to see the details of the government’s plan for how they will rectify these crises."
