Speaking after the vote, Leader of the Liberal Democrats in the European Parliament Caroline Voaden said:

“Too many people – particularly young people - across the UK are worried about the impact Brexit will have for jobs, the environment and the NHS.

“People can see through Boris Johnson’s lies. He’s promised the world, but with Brexit he’s jeopardised our future.

“That’s why Liberal Democrats voted against the Withdrawal Agreement in the European Parliament.

“With a no-deal Brexit still very much a possibility, we will do everything in our power to hold Boris Johnson to account. The Liberal Democrats will always be on the side of anyone who believes in an open and tolerant Britain.”

Catherine Bearder MEP added:

“It is now an historic week, and all the British MEPs, Commissioner and Ministers will be leaving Brussels. We will have no voice as decisions are made about our futures.

“The Liberal Democrats will continue to strive for a close working relationship with our colleagues, friends and neighbours in the European Union. We remain fully committed to the European ideals of equality, social justice, protection of our planet and democracy for all peoples.”
