Make Five Lane Ends Safer for Pedestrians, Children and Drivers
This is one of Bradford’s busiest junctions, used by thousands of vehicles every day, as well as by many local residents, including around 2,000 pupils attending nearby primary and secondary schools. There have been repeated minor collisions and too many near misses involving pedestrians. For many people, especially children, older residents and those with mobility difficulties, the junction feels unsafe and intimidating.
The current layout, traffic volumes and vehicle speeds create a hostile environment for vulnerable road users and discourage walking and other forms of active travel.
In line with the West Yorkshire Vision Zero strategy, which aims to eliminate road deaths and serious injuries, we call on Bradford Council to take urgent action to improve safety at Five Lane Ends by:
- Improving pedestrian infrastructure through the installation of dedicated signal-controlled pedestrian crossings on every arm of the roundabout.
- Carrying out a full safety audit to assess visibility, traffic management, road markings and other measures needed to reduce danger for all road users.
Five Lane Ends should be a safer place for everyone. Bradford Council must act now.
