The Post Office has recently announced that it plans to relocate the Gain Lane Post Office (Closed temporarily 3 years ago) to a new location on Harrogate road. While the Lib Dem team have campaigned over the years for greater post office services in the Eccleshill area, we are astonished that the Post Office would want to open a post office so close (just half a mile) from the existing Wharncliffe Post office.
Rather than increasing post office services have two located so close together will result in them competing for the same few thousand customers and risks the long term viability of both locations, while many more people in the Gain Lane and Fagley area will see post office services permanently removed. This is not the first time Eccleshill ward residents have been let down by the post office. A few years ago the Five Lane Ends Post Office was closed leaving many more having to travel further to use Post Office services.
The Liberal Democrats in Eccleshill are asking the post Office to think again and take the following steps, and we urge local residents to make their voices heard by signing the petition below
- Restore a Post Office in the Gain Lane area not almost a mile away on Harrogate Road.
- Restore the Post Office in the Five Lane Ends area.
- Do not undermine our existing Post Office provisions by forcing branches into the same area where they will struggle to find enough customers to survive
We the undersigned, demand the Post office think again and restore post office services in both the Gane and Five Lane Ends areas. We further ask the Post Office to halt plans to establish a new branch just half a mile away on the same road as this will undermine our existing Post Office at Wharncliffe Drive that could result in the Eccleshill area having no post offices in the years to come.
