Resurfacing at Greengates Junction

After what seems like an eternity the work to improve Greengates Junction is drawing to a close.

Massively over budget and years behind schedule, the works have been a major disruption for many of us and it is great to see the end is now in sight.

Notices have now been published for a number of overnight road closures from April 25th in order to resurface the roads - one of the final steps towards completion.

Below are more details on how the overnight closures will work. If you need to contact the contractor and council you can do so using these details, Howard Civil Engineering, g[email protected] or contact 07793654086. For Bradford Council, please contact David Aspinall via email at [email protected]

From Monday 25th April, night works will commence to enable us to finish the final surfacing layer to the roads around the junction.

There will be different closures in place at different times depending on which section we are working on, but this will involve temporarily closing:

  • Carr Bottom Road only at the junction with Harrogate Road (residents of this one-way section will be assisted out into Harrogate Road or New Line if needed)
  • Stockhill Road only at the junction with Harrogate Road (residents of this one-way section and customers of Aldo’s will be assisted out into Harrogate Road or New Line if needed)
  • New Line between Harrogate Road and Haigh Hall Road. There will be access to Stockhill Road and The Grove from Stockhill Road. Customers of New Line Retail Park will be assisted in and out of the works area as required. There will be a signed diversion via Apperley Road.
  • New Line between Harrogate Road and Elder Street. There will be access to and from Elder St throughout the night and for ASDA customers until 22:00 when ASDA closes. There will be a signed diversion to the north via the A658, B6152, A65, A6210 and the A657 back into Calverley. There will also be a signed diversion to the south via the A658, A6177, A647, A6120 and the A657 back into Calverley.
  • Harrogate Road southbound between Valley View Drive and New Line. There will be access to and from Valley View Drive. Residents and customers of businesses in this section of Harrogate Road will be assisted through the works area as required. There will be a signed diversion via Apperley Road.

All closures will be from 21:00 through to 06:00 the following morning when all roads will be fully re-opened. Howard Civil Engineering (the Contractor for the work) ask that residents and businesses park vehicles so as to not obstruct the works.

These works will be undertaken in two phases.

The planned start date is Monday 25th April with Phase 1 on Harrogate Road, involving the southbound closure of Harrogate Road and its junctions with Carr Bottom Road and Stockhill Road. This will take about two weeks.

Phase 1 on New Line will be tackled in two halves, requiring either the closure of the western side of the scheme or the eastern side depending on where they are working. These works will last about six nights.

Phase 2 will then start in Harrogate Road north of the junction, again involving the southbound closure of Harrogate Road and its junctions with Carr Bottom Road and Stockhill Road. We will then move on to New Line with a repeat of the traffic management required for Phase 1 (see above paragraph) and then finally they will complete the southern half of Harrogate Road which can be done without road closures. Phase 2 is expected to take about two weeks.

To achieve all of the above they will be working on weekday nights for approximately four-to-six weeks, but they do not intend to work on weekends or the bank holiday on Monday 2nd May.

Unforeseen issues such as adverse weather may impact progress and could potentially require minor changes to this schedule.
