Responding to comments today from Michael Gove's that “some of the reporting from China was not clear about the nature, the scale, the infectiousness” of coronavirus, Acting Leader of the Liberal Democrats Ed Davey said:
"The evidence this was a serious virus was well documented through January into February.
“We need to understand precisely how Ministers were responding, rather than feeble excuses that they didn’t know.
"Going forward, every effort must be made, nationally and internationally, to ensure that we are in the best possible position to provide medical care as the number of cases grows.
"Liberal Democrats are calling on Government to ensure that every single opportunity to get hold of vital resources is investigated and acted on. This includes working with international partners, including our European neighbours, to pursue all avenues to acquire ventilators, as well as personal protective equipment, key medicines and testing kits.
“Cooperating and learning from the experience of other nations could not be more vital."
